ABOUT APA...
The Administrative Personnel
Association is a professional association for administrative staff of churches, governing bodies, agencies and institutions
of the Presbyterian church (USA). Administrative personnel eligible for membership includes employees of churches and
church-related institutions such as:
- Secretaries
- Administrative Assistants
- Computer
operators/Bookkeepers
- Receptionists/Clerks
- Other Administrative Staff
- Day
Care Staff
- Administrative Volunteers
Provides Opportunities for programs of theological accredited continuing education through
on-campus study in Presbyterian technological institutions, presbytery/synod sponsored events and annual APA conferences;
promotes fellowship and sharing; opportunities for individual growth, spiritually and professionally. Certifies Qualified
Members who have completed any option of the APA Certification Plan. Continuing Education opportunities include annual
national and regional conferences and seminars for certification and advanced certification.
The Goal of APA is to improve the quality of professionalism in those
offices that are usually the first contact with congregations, governing bodies and agencies for our denomination. It
affirms the Ministry of the Lay Church Professional and recognizes the importance of efficient office procedures and competent
personnel who strive to provide a deeper commitment and understanding of the issues and theology of our Church. Educational
opportunities are offered in both annual conference and seminars for certification and provide training in three levels of
study.
Administrative Personnel may attend any annual conference - National
or Regional, at any location desirable. Each meeting has a different theme, agenda and leadership.
Funds for attending conferences and seminars for certification should be provided in the
budgets of local churches, governing bodies and agencies annually. Some Presbyteries, through appropriate committees,
are offering APA programs of continuing education, as well as assisting with conference mailing and scholarships. Limited
scholarships are available through some presbyteries, as well as through regional and national APA.
